Bangor University
Between the mountains and the sea in North Wales, Bangor University’s campus is surrounded by a breathtaking natural landscape. Bangor offers the highest quality teaching in a supportive learning environment with courses across the arts, humanities and sciences. Most postgraduate taught courses are offered on a full-time and part-time basis, allowing you to fit your studies around your life. In addition, the selection of distance learning courses, as well as ‘blended’ courses that combine remote and face-to-face study opportunities allow for further personalisation.
Bangor University provides strong support for research activities, and there are several subject related specialist resources such as a research vessel, MRI Scanner, climatic chamber, Natural History Museum and Botanic Gardens. The latest Research Excellence Framework (REF, 2021) recognised 85% of Bangor’s research as being either world leading or internationally excellent.
Student Life
Undeb Bangor, the Students' Union, is the voice of students and the home of student life at Bangor. Much of the social calendar in Bangor focuses on the Students’ Union with over 100 Clubs and Societies to choose from, all free to join, as well as over 30 Volunteering Projects students can get involved with. There is plenty to do in Bangor with bars, cafes and lots of activities a stone's throw away for those seeking adventure.
University Facilities
The University has an impressive range of learning resources and facilities, including an extensive collection of books and journals; over 1000 computers for student use, several 24-hour access PC rooms, social learning spaces, state of the art science labs and an exciting range of specialist facilities.
Canolfan Brailsford, the University's sport centre is a hub for sports lovers, housing two main sports halls, three well-equipped gyms, a multi-route climbing wall and a range of impressive outdoor facilities including a FIFA and World Rugby certified 3G pitch.
Scholarships and Bursaries
As you would expect from a university that places great emphasis on student support, Bangor is keen to demonstrate their longstanding belief that further education should be available to students from all economic backgrounds. Bangor University offers a range of bursaries and scholarships to new and returning students. on both merit-based and needs-based criteria. Alternatively, flexible payment plans mean you can spread the cost of your qualification over the year.
Student Support
Student Services offers financial help, counselling, assistance for dyslexic and disabled students and advice on housing, while the Study Skills Centre offers one-to-one help and workshops to ease you through your studies. There’s also a Research Writing Group to boost your skills if you’re doing a PhD. Most students are assigned a Personal Tutor at the beginning of their studies, an academic member of staff who can help guide you through your studies and be a friendly face to chat to.
Accommodation
There are dedicated halls of residence for Postgraduate students at Bangor where you will be placed with other Postgraduate students. You will have the choice of two residential villages situated either side of the main university buildings with room options including standard, ensuite, studio and townhouse. The student who chooses to live at the halls of residence will also enjoy a gym and Campus Life membership included in their rent, conveniently within walking distance of their accommodation.
