5 things that make the Oxford MBA special
There are many reasons to study an MBA – from higher salary potential, to developing entrepreneurship skills and expanding your career opportunities. An MBA qualification is highly recognised by employers worldwide and one of the most popular professional degree courses in the world. In this blog we are going to look at what makes the Oxford MBA so special.
1. A global mindset
The variety of people and perspectives that the Oxford MBA gives you access to helps to shape the programme, making it a truly extraordinary experience.
Saïd Business School is embedded within The University of Oxford, one of the world's leading universities, bringing with it a diverse community from all over the world.
Students on the Oxford MBA can expect to encounter classmates who bring with them expertise from a range of different roles and sectors, adding to the richness of the programme and its community.
Meanwhile, the University’s unique collegiate structure opens up opportunities to mingle with students and academics from across The University of Oxford. In the classroom, you might discover new ways of thinking about a business challenge, while over dinner you might find yourself sharing your new discoveries with philosophers, astrophysicists or medical researchers.
2. A place for leaders
The Oxford MBA is an intensive, one-year programme, designed to hone and nurture your motivation to turn your business ideas into action and to accelerate change.
The MBA programme builds on this foundation through a combination of teamwork, reflection and academic study. You will also have access to hear from, and engage with, industry leaders throughout your time in Oxford.
88% of those who graduated in Oxford Said’s 2023 class transitioned to a new sector, a new job function or a different country, and achieved an average 9% salary increase to £91,198.
3. A world of opportunity
The Oxford MBA is a highly customisable programme, allowing you to build a solid foundation of business skills through the core curriculum, while allowing you to choose your own pathway through a wide range of electives and co-curricular study options.
This structure allows students to tailor their learning to their post-MBA goals, and to ensure that they are equipped for their future career-path. It also enables students to pursue their academic interests further, and dive deeper into concepts that fascinate them.
For those who wish to expand their horizons further still, Oxford Saïd also offers the opportunity to study a 1+1 MBA. The 1+1 MBA is a two-year programme, enabling you to first complete one of the University of Oxford’s partnering master’s programmes, before progressing to your MBA year. This allows you to achieve two complementary masters degrees from one of the world’s top universities, with a depth of specialist understanding to guide you through your career after graduation.
4. Skills to navigate a complex environment
The world is facing increasingly complex challenges – from sustainability and the climate-crisis to the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and growing geo-political tensions. Business has a key role to play in navigating this new terrain.
The Oxford MBA is designed to equip you with the critical skills to guide your organisation through these pressing, system-level challenges. Over the course of the programme, you will learn strategic skills to address the biggest challenges facing society, with the option of delving further into these issues through tailored elective options.
“I was attracted by the theoretical and practical approach of the MBA programme itself. The programme imparts skills to develop a business concept and implement it, all with a holistic view of business on an interlinked world stage.” Harriet Okwi Asiyo, Oxford MBA student.
5. The experience of a lifetime
Studying at The University of Oxford is an experience like no other. Between classes, you will find yourself surrounded by the city’s iconic dreaming spires, historic libraries and idyllic green spaces. You will find yourself immersed in a world of college-dinners, academic talks, Oxford Union debates, student treks, clubs and co-curriculars. Alongside all of this, you will find endless opportunities to build a network of lifelong friends and professional contacts from a breadth of backgrounds.
Meanwhile, Oxford Saïd will give you access to leading business scholars and industry experts, as you progress through your studies. After completing the Oxford MBA, you will have lifetime access to the 27,000+ strong Oxford Saïd Alumni Community.
