Cranfield Energy and Sustainability
Cranfield’s expertise in energy and sustainability covers a range of the potential energy solutions, from our ongoing relationship with oil and gas, to our developing reliance on renewable energy from the world around us. Cranfield Transport Systems
In an increasingly interconnected world, our award-winning research and teaching is helping to define the future of global transport. We specialise in understanding the whole environment in which transport operates: the vehicles, infrastructure, businesses, and logistics as well as the human aspects of operating, managing, and using transport.
We develop innovative technologies and business solutions for major international organisations and conduct world-leading research for the European Commission and Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). For example, our Engineering Photonics Centre is the holder of three consecutive, prestigious EPSRC Platform Grants.

Cranfield Water
The Water Theme at Cranfield has a proud reputation for its research on the science, engineering, and management of water. Our lives and livelihoods are dependent on the natural and engineered water cycles. Accordingly, research and skills development in water treatment and management have never been more vital. Cranfield’s research in these areas is focused on fundamental science insights and practical solutions, and we have been driving innovation for over 40 years.
Our expertise is award-winning, and our innovations are making water services and natural water bodies more resilient and sustainable. Our people have wide ranging expertise, with specialisms in water and wastewater treatment, water and sanitation in the developing world, water for agriculture, catchment management, as well as the human and governance aspects of water services.

Student Life
Our Cranfield campus is 40 minutes away from central London by train, with nearest towns being Milton Keynes and Bedford. London Luton airport is the closest to the University, while Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted are all easily accessible via train and coach.
Cranfield Defence and Security site at Shrivenham is around 50 mins from London by train and around 25 mins from Bristol by train. Bath, Cheltenham, Bristol and Oxford are all within an hour’s drive and London less than two hours away by car.
When you join Cranfield, you will have a wealth of opportunities to meet new people and get involved in a wide range of clubs and societies run by student volunteers, such as the Basketball Club, Astronomical Society, and Musicians Society.
On campus, there is a true sense of community, helping you to forge friendships during your studies and leisure time, in a safe and peaceful environment. Whatever your recreational, social, or sporting interests, there are many opportunities to make friends and have a great time.
Accomodation
Living on campus can be a great way for you to meet and socialise with other students, and to benefit from the supportive infrastructure and sense of community spirit this brings.
