Set on a 494 hectare farm, Harper Adams is the UK’s leading specialist university tackling the future development of the world’s food production, animal sciences, engineering, land management and sustainable business. Programmes fall into 11 broad subject areas – but none operate in isolation. Popular postgraduate programmes include Entomology (including Integrated Pest Management and Plant Health & Biosecurity), Data Science for Global Agriculture, Food and Environment, Agroecology, Plant Pathology, Land Management, Agricultural Production and the wide range of MRes titles that allow students to specialise in areas closest to their passions and/or career goals.
The University’s 3,000-plus students have access to cutting-edge facilities such as the Agricultural Engineering Innovation Centre, where the future of farming is being pioneered with agricultural robots; the Elizabeth Creak Science Laboratories; a new robotic dairy university farm, the Veterinary Services Centre; and the Food Academy.
Research
Applied research is at the heart of the university’s activity, with the work of a thriving academic community underpinning both teaching and work with the industries allied to Harper. The 2021 Government Research Excellence Framework rated 60 per cent of the university’s research as “world leading” or “internationally excellent” – an almost ten per cent increase since the previous submission.

Location
Harper Adams is situated in stunning Shropshire, the UK’s largest land-locked county. Despite its rural location, major cities are within easy reach – one hour by car to Birmingham and Manchester and about two hours by car then train from Stafford station to London Euston. It is a single campus university where all of the facilities are a short walking distance apart.
