ARU Writtle (formally Writtle University College)

We are pleased to confirm that Writtle University College and ARU (Anglia Ruskin University) have joined together as of 29 February 2024.. Writtle’s full range of Higher and Further Education courses will continue to be delivered on site at the new ARU Writtle campus, enhanced by resources available at nearby ARU Chelmsford If you are starting your course in September 2024, your degree will be awarded by ARU.

Our facilities
We attract students locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Our campus is based in the beautiful Essex countryside, only two miles from the popular city of Chelmsford. You can make the most of the area’s many shops, culture and sporting amenities or travel just 35 minutes to London, a world-famous capital city.
The facilities and resources on our campus are used to enhance the student learning experience, enabling you to gain both theory and practical skills whilst studying with us.
Our estate includes on-site science laboratories, research greenhouses and a working farm featuring approximately 130 hectares of arable land in addition to commercial livestock; cattle, sheep and pigs. Our specialist animal unit is home to around 150 species, from alpacas to emus and capybaras, all cared for by experienced staff.
Our equine campus recently received £2 million in investment and features two indoor arenas, an Olympic-sized outdoor arena, an oval horse walker, and a cross-country course. We also offer facilities for breeding and stud work.
The University has recently invested in the UK’s first dedicated 3x3 basketball facility – comprising of 10 courts, including a showcourt, as well as opening a new Centre for Sport and Health. Our reservoir on campus is also accessible for water sports.
Campus life
Many of our students enjoy the convenience of living on campus, close to our on-site facilities. As a postgraduate student you will be guaranteed a room in our halls of residence. Our fourteen halls are close to amenities such as our recreation and fitness centre, an on-site shop, the bar, library, computer suites and laundry facilities. Residential students receive on-site catering within the ‘Garden Room’ restaurant and campus cafes.

As one of our students, you’ll join our friendly Writtle community. We have produced leaders within academia, business and public service, including international equine specialists and Government Ministers.
We work to offer all of our students – in further and higher education – an outstanding experience. You will have access to extensive support services to help you take your first steps towards your chosen career.

Our students have many commitments, and we aim to accommodate your work and family life by offering both full and part-time study. Research degrees can be situated at the University College or work-based.
