SOAS University of London: Politics and International Studies
Teaching and research in the Department of Politics and International Studies is distinguished by a critical approach to the study of the politics of the Global South. Real-world relevance
In the wide-range of modules taught on the Politics degrees, students pursue in-depth study of topics such as the political economies of China, Japan, Korea, and India; the politics of the Arab Uprisings in Egypt, Syria, and Tunisia; and the politics of justice and reconciliation in Africa.
As a student, you will engage in research that has a tangible effect on the real world by interacting with scholars who take a challenging and heterodox approach to important contemporary issues, and that is why our knowledge is sought after by governments, international agencies, non-governmental organisations and the global mass media.
Networks and influencers
One of the Department’s key strengths lies in fostering a supportive learning and teaching environment for its students.
This learning environment extends beyond the institutional level, thanks to the networks and relationships we have with many key influencers, such as the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DfID), the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Royal Institute for International Affairs at Chatham House.
International Studies and Diplomacy
The Centre of International Studies and Diplomacy at SOAS provides a combination of multi-disciplinary teaching, leading research and public discussion of diplomacy and international politics in a globalised world.
