Simulation in Clinical Education: Design, Development and Delivery offers an opportunity to study the principles of experiential learning theory in healthcare simulation, the process of creating simulation scenarios, and the concepts underlying safe and effective debriefing. In addition to theoretical study, the course aims to promote the wider use of simulation modalities, non-technical skills and human factors in healthcare teaching, learning and practice.

Simulation is becoming increasingly prevalent as a tool for teaching and learning in healthcare because it provides a safe environment in which students can develop clinical skills and non-technical skills via guided debriefing. Our Clinical Simulation programme is suitable for all clinical healthcare professionals: doctors, dentists and all allied health professionals with a clinical facing role where they are supervising students who learn through simulation.
This course will satisfy all the requirements for undergraduate and postgraduate educators teaching on medical school or postgraduate programmes, or allied curricular where simulation is an integral part of the content.
The course is delivered online, via an established distance learning platform. This is a multidisciplinary course, suitable for all healthcare professionals with an interest or involvement in delivering training and education, the main aims of this programme are to provide students with:
- An understanding of the principles of adult learning and how they can be applied to multidisciplinary healthcare simulation training
- An understanding of the evolution, variety and importance of human factors in healthcare practice
- The knowledge and skills required to design, develop and facilitate simulation training
- The debriefing skills required to aide learners subsequent reflection and development

Entry requirements | You must have a suitable (health professionals) primary degree. English Language entry requirement for International students: The course will be delivered in English. If English is not your first language, you must either hold a degree from an institution where English was the language of instruction or take the IELTS (overall score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each component). The University also accepts a range of internationally recognised English tests. If you do not meet the English language requirements, the University offers a range of English language preparation programmes.
