Whatever you study, you’ll be encouraged to stretch yourself intellectually, broaden your horizons and challenge the status quo.
Diverse and welcoming community
Our beautiful campus is home to a friendly multicultural community of students from over 100 countries and nearly a third of our staff come from outside the UK.
Twelve of our subjects are currently ranked in the top 50 of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023, and Sussex has also been ranked as one of the top 50 universities in the world for impact on the Sustainable Development Goals (THE Impact Rankings 2022). Additionally, we were voted 1st in the world for student diversity in Study Portals Global Satisfaction Awards 2021, based on the views of 108,000 current and former students at 4,000 universities.
Our campus has everything you need for day-to-day life, including a bank, post office, GP surgery, dentist, cafés, restaurants, and a weekly food market.
Ground-breaking research with real-world impact
Our research feeds empirical knowledge into the great questions of our age, impacting policy and practice for businesses, NGOs and governments. More than 85% of our research activity is categorised as world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021).
Where city, countryside and coast meet
We shape the world from a fantastic location that combines both tranquillity and vitality. Surrounded by a national park, our campus is just nine minutes by train from Brighton, the famously cosmopolitan city by the sea and Hipster Capital of the World! (Mobhub.com 2018).
With its eclectic mix of artists, innovators, activists and beach-goers, there’s always something interesting to see or do. And if you want to go further afield, the rolling hills of the South Downs are right on our doorstep.
Brighton is very well connected to the rest of the UK, mainland Europe and the rest of the world; central London is only an hour away and you can be at Gatwick Airport in just 30 minutes.
