Ms.King, thank you for the article. I am a dermatovenerologist from Azerbaijan Medical University with a full six year medical education and a year internship in dermatovenerology. Could you tell me if I can get a postgraduate education, namely MSC degree in dermatology in the UK with the diploma i have got? Do I have to start getting basic medical education in the UK?

Thanks in advance.

Charlotte King April 19, 2017, 8:28 a.m.

Hi Kenul,

Different universities have different entry criteria. I think the best thing you can do is to find some courses that interest you and then contact the relevant universities directly to see whether you have the correct qualifications to attend. You can use our comprehensive course search facility for this:

Lanny Black Sept. 29, 2017, 1:14 p.m.

Hi Charlotte,

Thanks very much for putting this together!
As a recent graduate with little to no knowledge of the UK system, realistically, what would be my job prospects if I did the MSc from either Cardiff or Hertfordshire? I'd love to go into dermatology - will this make me a viable prospect as compared to doctors who do residencies in dermatology instead?

Thanks,
Lanny

I have applied for Msc clinical dermatology from hertfordshire university. I have the admission offer but I am confused now as the university is not a medical university like kings college and would doing MSC from this university will be acceptable and recognized in UAE to practice as a specialist dermatologist?

Charlotte King June 30, 2020, 11:34 p.m.

Hi Maria,

If you read the details of the MSc Clinical Dermatology at the University of Hertfordshire it states that: "this programme is designed and intended for educational purposes only. Completion of the course and possession of the MSc does not endorse the practitioner to consider themselves a specialist in dermatology. The current British Association of Dermatologists guidelines outline the essential requirements for fulfilling the role of GPwSI in Dermatology and Consultant Dermatologist in the UK. Local guidelines apply to overseas students who should consult with the relevant governing body"

https://www.applycpd.com/HERTS/courses/108016?courseId=108016&tabId=26

Therefore I think you may need to study another course or at least check the guidelines and requirements in the UAE.

Hi Juliet – To study Dermatology you need an academic background in Chemistry (which you have) and preferably also in Physics, Biology or Maths. I suggest you contact the institution that you;re interested in and see if you have the academic qualifications to pursue this area of interest further. Good luck!
