Postgraduate research degrees
Researchers who choose to study with us are viewed as junior members of staff in the Faculty. Our academic supervisors are open to ideas that extend existing work or introduce new topics to their research areas. Depending on your subject of interest, you can develop your own research proposal or apply for a pre-defined research project. We have funded and self-funded PhD project opportunities available all year round.

If applying for an MSc, you may be eligible for one of the Faculty's scholarships and bursaries.
If applying for a research study degree, you may also be eligible for funding to support your studies.
Research led
The Faculty is a multidisciplinary academic community contributing to industrially significant research at a world-class level. The Research Excellence Framework recognised our successful contribution to research, ranking all four of our departments in the top 20. Over 89% of our research was rated as either world leading or internationally excellent. We have multi- and interdisciplinary research centres covering a range of engineering and design specialisms. Our research strengths encompass core disciplinary themes including:
