Summary
The MA in Education degree course provides graduates who have academic, professional or personal interests in education with an opportunity to pursue these through study and research at postgraduate level.
The programme offers a number of elective modules in Educational Sciences and Professional Development.
Students are exposed to a range of research skills and techniques which enable them to engage with, and produce, high quality educational research (*Please note this is not a professional training programme, applicants who intend to train as secondary school teachers should apply for the Professional Masters in Education)
Graduates who have graduated with an MA in Education work in a diverse range of careers in education in roles such as: teachers, policy advisors, education professionals, education leaders, education outreach officers, and education and training officers.

Entry requirements | This programme is intended for applicants with an upper second class honours, or international equivalent in their primary degree and who demonstrate evidence of interest in educational issues. Summary
This is a 90-credit part-time taught Masters degree programme designed to respond to the interests and needs of education professionals, including those in full-time employment.
On successful completion of the programme, students will have deepened their understanding of key issues within the field of education and familiarised themselves with the latest national and international research in education. (*Please note this is not a professional training programme, applicants who intend to train as secondary school teachers should apply for the Professional Masters in Education)
The aim of this programme is to enable students to explore the core issues and policies relating to Education. It aims to enhance the knowledge base of a range of professionals within the education system, including, but not confined to, classroom teachers, aspiring school leaders, those working with vulnerable pupils and those working with agencies supporting schools.
It aims to familiarise students with the latest national and international research in relation to Education.
It critically explores policy and current discourses in relation to a range of issues, especially equality of participation in education, Inclusive Education, Effective Education, School Leadership and School Organisation. It explores a range of barriers to education, including those arising from disability and additional educational needs, social background and linguistic and cultural context.
This Masters in Education qualification has the potential to further the careers of a range of educators, including mainstream class teachers and aspiring school leaders.
It will enhance recruitment opportunities with a range of agencies that support schools.

Entry requirements | Applicants will normally hold an honours degree at undergraduate level (or equivalent) from a recognised higher education institution, or the candidate must present such other evidence of academic standing and/or relevant professional experiences as will satisfy the College of Human Sciences Graduate Taught Programmes Board of their suitability for masters studies. In addition, applicants should have relevant professional experience. |

Professional Master of Education
Summary
The Professional Master of Education is a two-year, full-time Level 9 programme which is creative, innovative and a leading model in initial teacher training internationally.
The programme pays systematic attention to dispositions, values and beliefs regarding professionalism as public service and commitment to social justice with confidence, competence and appropriate expertise, both disciplinary and pedagogical. It develops practice-oriented enquiry which is both rigorous and systematic and builds relevant and sustainable synergies between theory and practice.
