Knowledge for everyone
Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) prides itself on developing its students and staff to lead the way. Through postgraduate study, students deepen their knowledge in their chosen area, giving them a distinct advantage over their industry peers.
It is our mission to create and mobilise knowledge and talent, to partner locally and globally to benefit the natural economy.
Education, research, and consultancy (through SAC Consulting) at SRUC grows the natural economy. A natural economy fuelled by responsible use of the world's natural resources: people, land, energy, water, animals and plants.
By working in partnership, we focus on solving the challenges our planet faces, including climate change, biodiversity and access to nutritious food and clean water.
This all means that as a student at SRUC you are taught by a team of staff including lecturers, researchers, advisers and consultants. They will provide up-to-the-minute information and insight into the commercial world beyond the College environment.
We believe no other education institution can offer this combination of expertise and experience. All of our courses aim to provide you with the necessary science, business, research and personal knowledge and skills for your future success.
Distance Learning MSc programmes
Primarily taught via distance learning with a minimum of two study weekends, normally at our Aberdeen campus, depending on the subject you choose. The study weekends offer the opportunity for you to meet with your programme leader and lecturing staff face to face as well as your fellow students. Many of our students are based in the United Kingdom, however we also have a number of international students from all over the world, as an example we currently have students from Latvia, the USA, the Netherlands and as far away as New Zealand.
Former student Joel Conroy is based in Ireland and has just completed his 3rd year (MSc) via online Distance Learning. Joel says: ‘I’m not from an agricultural background and I wanted to study the aspects of sustainability in agriculture. I hadn’t been in an academic setting in years, but the staff were extremely supportive and took me trough the processes step by step, making it very easy from the beginning. All the materials available on the Moodle platform were very well set and very useful. The quality of the tutors and professors is exceptional, and it was a great benefit to have access to these professionals. There is a lot of work involved – I work full time and have a family but is all a matter of planning, whether if is on weekday evenings or weekends, so the recommended 15 hours per week is pretty accurate, if you plan ahead to work around your commitments.’
