Postgrad Solutions UK Postgraduate Study Bursary Winner - Engineering
Craig Brown, MEng Chemical Engineering, University of Birmingham
21-year-old Craig Brown is studying an MEng in Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham and is really pleased to have been awarded a Postgrad Solutions £500 bursary:
“Winning the bursary was a big surprise. It has filled me with confidence knowing some weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I'm very honoured to have been selected out of so many applicants.”
Craig applied for the Postgrad Solutions Engineering Bursary via the Postgrad.com website, and says of the website:
“The Postgrad.com website offers a very thorough overview of postgraduate course available. The search box is the most useful feature because you can search by a very narrow field of study to really get a course with the material you want. ”
Craig is from London, but chose to follow the course at the University of Birmingham for a couple of reasons. He is particularly excited because the chemical engineering department is one of the best in the country having been made famous by the huge progress it has made in hydrogen fuel cell technology. He also chose the location for the social aspect, saying, “Birmingham is an exciting city with incredible night-life and friendly locals. ”
For his MEng, Craig is doing a research project looking into the computer modelling of turbulent flows in agitated vessels. He says of his chosen topic, “It’s a challenging area due to the chaotic nature of such systems!”
So far he has really enjoyed his course, finding the fast pace of the programme as well as the depth of knowledge required very stimulating. He says, “We've already had the chance to design a bio-artificial liver, tissue engineering is a very challenging but fascinating area."
Craig has just come back from an enjoyable year abroad studying at the National University of Singapore and was most impressed with his time spent overseas, particularly on the work ethic of the students there. He is now pleased to be studying in the UK, especially as it is renowned worldwide for its academic excellence.
