Alex Barker, MSc Psychology Wellbeing and Mental Health, Nottingham Trent University
Alex Barker, 21, has just started his MSc in Psychology Wellbeing and Mental Health at Nottingham Trent University. He was really pleased to be awarded a £500 Postgrad Solutions Bursary.
‘Finding out that I won the bursary came as a complete shock to me. I am just so happy to be able to focus on my studies rather than worrying about my finances. I am extremely grateful for this generous contribution towards my fees, it has really lifted a load off my mind.’

The 21-year-old is happy with his choice of university and loves the busy city centre campus, he is also impressed with his course. He says, ‘I chose Nottingham Trent University because of its specialised course in Psychological Wellbeing and Mental Health and because of its impressive employability rate.’
Although it is still early in the programme, Alex has already begun working on a research project that is exploring the effects of dispositional optimism and explanatory optimism on psychological wellbeing. He chose to do an MSc in Psychology Wellbeing and Mental Health to help him prepare for a career in a mental health setting.
He says of the programme so far, ‘I am currently enjoying being given the chance to engage in self directed study and focus my attention on aspects that I have a personal interest in.’
The highlight of his first week at Nottingham Trent University has been the chance to meet so many like-minded people, both in terms of the students and the lecturers, all of whom he has found to be really approachable, friendly and supportive.
