Amanda Brough from West Sussex was delighted to be awarded the Postgrad Solutions Distance Learning Study Bursary worth £500 to go towards her tuition fees at the Open University. As a single mum of two, going back to full-time education isn’t really an option at the moment – so the Open University is the perfect way for Amanda to gain her postgraduate qualification.
She explains, “'As a single mum to two small boys, and the chair of the local playgroup, the decision to study for my master’s in education was not an easy one. It's been quite tough fitting in the work load around all my other commitments, but I don't regret a second. I'm loving the mental challenge and I really feel like I'm investing in a real future for me and my boys. Of course, my choice to studying with the Open University was an obvious one. It's really enabled me to fit my education around my life in a way that few establishments could."
Speaking of her choice in master’s degree, Amanda says, “My choice of master’s is very much driven from a number of years in workforce development and adult learning prior to having my own children, and since my commitment to the Playgroup. Both of these underpin my passion for life-long learning, for myself and others. Therefore the MEd was a fitting choice.”
